Fate core system toolkit8/12/2023 ![]() See here for a clarification from Brian Engard that implies stress is not used. I'm pretty sure Conditions are meant to replace both Consequences and Stress. What is this system trying to do? What are its merits? Your thoughts and experiences are appreciated!Ĥ) PS, bonus question for Bulldogs players: do the benefits of having a high Physique stack? If you have a Physique of +5, do you also get the extra stress boxes for Physique +2 and Physique +4? And it just seems that characters get Winded and Angry every time, which might get old fast. The regular stress track is simpler, it seems confusing to have both Conditions and Consequences at the same time. In addition, characters have the usual Consequence slots available to soak stress. Minor conditions clear as soon as you accept the compel, major ones only at the end of a session, critical only clears after you receive aid/treatment. Stress can only clear once you accepted a compel on that condition. Once all boxes for a condition are marked, it becomes an aspect (but the opponent does not get a free invoke on it). You can mark the boxes on any condition you choose, spreading them out however you decide. You check off one box for every shift of the attack. Basically, you have two minor conditions with 1 stress box each, and one major condition and one critical condition with 2 boxes each. ![]() In Bulldogs, conditions are tied to stress boxes (instead of replacing consequences). ![]() But then what’s the point of having pre-defined conditions?ģ) Is anyone familiar with the stress/conditions hybrid in the Bulldogs game, and can you recommend it? Bulldogs is a kind of pulpy space opera tramp freighter setting for Fate Core. Of course you could rename the Condition into something more appropriate, or make sure all Conditions are in vague, general terms. It doesn’t make much sense to end up Hungry after taking a hit. ![]() Hi, I have some questions on the Conditions hack in the Fate System Toolkit and the Conditions variant as used in the Bulldogs: Fate Core edition book.ġ) In the FST (p18), Conditions are meant to replace Consequences, right? Meaning a character still gets the normal stress track, but not the standard Mild/Moderate/Severe Consequence slots?Ģ) How would you use Conditions to soak stress if the Condition doesn’t match the source of the stress inflicted? Say you need to soak a two-shift punch to the face, but your only remaining Condition boxes are for Hungry and Dehydrated. ![]()
